Renewed Bandit Raid in Kwara’s Nuku Village Leaves Five Forest Guards Dead
Suspected bandits stormed Nuku village in Kaiama LGA, Kwara State, around 3:00 a.m. on Friday, killing five forest guards and setting motorcycles and mobile police vehicles ablaze. A community source, speaking on condition of anonymity, said the attackers arrived in large numbers and operated for hours without encountering resistance. They opened fire directly on newly recruited guards and residents. The Kwara State Police Command’s spokesperson, Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, said she had not yet been briefed on the incident but would provide updates when available. The latest attack has deepened fears in rural communities still recovering from a February assault that killed over 200 people and saw nearly 176 abducted. A recent video showing captives pleading for government intervention has added to the urgency of calls for improved security in the region.
