Jigawa Residents Return to Rainwater Harvesting as Water Shortages Persist

Residents of Kazaure Local Government Area in Jigawa State are returning to rainwater harvesting to supplement household water supplies amid persistent shortages. Families said they collect and store rainwater during the rainy season for cooking, washing and other domestic needs. They described the practice as an affordable way to reduce the stress of searching for water when boreholes, wells and other sources are inadequate. Residents also urged households to store harvested rainwater safely to prevent contamination. They called on authorities to expand reliable water infrastructure, noting that safe drinking water remains out of reach for many rural communities.
