Tinubu Orders Five-Year Security Threat Assessment and Defence Plan
President Bola Tinubu has ordered a nationwide assessment of Nigeria’s security threats and the development of a five-year strategic defence plan. The directive was issued at the Federal Executive Council meeting in Abuja. A nine-member committee, coordinated by the Special Adviser on Homeland Security, Major General Adeyinka Famadewa, has been given 90 days to submit the National Threat Assessment and Strategic Defence Operations Plan. The committee includes the National Security Adviser, defence ministers, service chiefs, and the heads of the DSS and NIA. The plan is expected to identify security gaps, equipment needs, operational priorities and timelines, while guiding medium-term defence spending and procurement. Tinubu said stronger coordination among military, intelligence and security agencies would help address threats across the country.
