Nepal-Tibet Flash Flood Death Toll Rises to 626 as Nearly 2,000 Remain Missing

Flash floods along the Nepal-Tibet border have killed at least 626 people in Nepal, while nearly 2,000 others remain missing after four days of rescue operations. The flooding destroyed homes, roads and parts of the Gyirong border crossing. Rescuers are working through thick mud, unstable debris and dangerous rivers, while authorities warn that further floods and landslides remain possible. At least seven deaths and 554 missing people have also been reported on the Tibetan side. Tens of thousands of affected households need food and safe drinking water, while international partners mobilise emergency aid for Nepal. Many of the missing are foreign tourists and pilgrims travelling to Mount Kailash, including visitors from India and Australia.
