Tinubu Returns From Europe, Dismisses Health Rumours as Political
President Bola Tinubu has returned to Nigeria after about four weeks in Europe, where he combined his annual vacation with meetings and official engagements. Speaking after arriving in Lagos, he said he was healthy, ready to work and dismissed concerns about his wellbeing as political rumour. His extended stay abroad sparked public debate over Section 145 of the Constitution and whether the required notification was sent to the National Assembly for Vice President Kashim Shettima to act in his absence. The presidency maintained that Tinubu continued to direct government affairs while abroad. Tinubu is expected to attend the October 1 premiere of a film honouring MKO Abiola in Lagos before holding meetings with political associates ahead of 2027. Atiku Abubakar has argued that Tinubu’s return does not resolve questions about the constitutional procedure, security pressures and the outcomes of his overseas engagements.
