Onitsha Building Materials Market Leaders Deny Police Raid and N50m Drug Seizure Claims

Leaders of the Onitsha Building Materials Market have denied reports that police officers conducted night raids on shops and seized drugs worth more than ₦50 million. The market chairman and secretary said no such raid occurred, adding that the market has no official or trader with the name cited in the earlier report. They also said its shop numbers end at 49, not 52 as alleged, and maintained that the market sells building materials rather than drugs. The Anambra State Police Command said the Commissioner of Police has ordered an investigation into the allegations. The command said any officer found to have acted unprofessionally would face appropriate sanctions.
