When Fear Becomes Our Ruler: How Intimidation Shapes Nigerian Politics
We have seen fear used as a tool in politics. Recent APC primaries revealed violence, intimidation, and lawlessness. Gunfire broke out and citizens were attacked with no investigations. These tactics mirror those of colonial rulers, military juntas, and criminal gangs. They keep us divided and clip our aspirations. Fear now governs our daily lives. Cities shut down by 5pm because we dread the dark. Kidnappers and thugs roam freely while the law looks the other way. Our leaders rely on intimidation to stay in power, treating obedience as the highest virtue. We must vote out anyone who weaponizes fear. Only then can we reclaim our humanity and fuel the creativity of our youth. The 2027 election is our chance to demand accountable leadership and build a democracy based on law and mutual trust.
