Igbo Professor Chukwuzubelu Ufodike Wins NSBE Technologist of the Year Award
Professor Chukwuzubelu Ufodike has been named the National Society of Black Engineers’ 2025–2026 Professional Technologist of the Year. The recognition honours his work in advanced manufacturing, artificial intelligence, mentorship and technology development. Ufodike is a professor and faculty fellow at Texas A&M University, where he leads the Digital Manufacturing and Distribution Lab. He also leads the university’s work on a $1.2 million NASA-funded project developing biodegradable, 3D-printed sensor components for coastal environments. His achievement reflects the growing contributions of Nigerians in global research, technology and innovation. It also raises a wider question for Nigeria: how can stronger institutions, research funding and local opportunities help more talented people thrive at home? Individual crimes and achievements should not be used to label any ethnic group. Professor Ufodike’s award is a worthy celebration of professional excellence and the value of investing in human capital.
