Waiter Stops Former Ohio Attorney After Attempted Shooting of Ex-Wife
A former attorney in Toledo, Ohio, has been convicted of attempted murder and two counts of felonious assault after trying to shoot his ex-wife at a restaurant in April 2025. Prosecutors said Matthew Exton saw his ex-wife and her family at a restaurant’s opening-night celebration. He allegedly returned with a handgun, pointed it at their table and attempted to fire, but the weapon did not discharge because its safety was engaged. A waiter tackled him before he could make another attempt. Prosecutors said the gun contained one round in the chamber and seven rounds in the magazine. Exton is due to be sentenced on September 21, 2026.
