Theactual Treasure’s ‘World War X’ Explores the Everyday Battles of Being Nigerian
Theactual Treasure’s five-track EP, World War X, examines the frustrations, faith, contradictions and resilience that shape everyday life in Nigeria. The spoken-word artist and musician uses the project to ask what it truly feels like to be born Nigerian. The EP moves through familiar national concerns, including hardship, public hypocrisy, religious manipulation and the endless cycle of troubling headlines. Tracks such as “Breaking News”, “Bring Back Our Country”, “Hypocrite” and “Selling Miracles” question both those in power and the choices ordinary citizens might make in the same positions. The title reflects the many personal and collective battles Nigerians face, with the “X” representing the unknown. Theactual Treasure produced four tracks, while SereneGP produced “Selling Miracles”. Rather than claiming to have all the answers, World War X invites listeners to reflect on Nigeria and their place within it.
