Lagos Seeks Japanese Partnership to Deploy High-Capacity Electric Buses
The Lagos State Government has asked Japan to partner with the state on high-capacity electric buses, technology, skills development and cultural exchange. Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, represented by Deputy Governor Kadri Hamzat, made the request during a meeting with Japan’s Assistant Minister and Director-General for African Affairs, Takahashi Misako. He said Lagos’ population of about 30 million and limited land area make efficient mass transit essential. The state also proposed collaboration in artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, robotics and youth skills development. Misako said Japan wants deeper ties with Lagos, where 57 major Japanese companies already operate, including three manufacturers. A Japan-Nigeria Business Facilitation Council meeting is planned for Lagos in October.
