On the Road to Golgotha: Jesus’ Crucifixion (Matthew 27:32-56)
This passage from the Gospel of Matthew recounts the final journey of Jesus to Golgotha. A man named Simon of Cyrene is compelled to carry the cross. At the place called “the Skull,” Jesus is offered wine mixed with gall but refuses it. The soldiers crucify him, cast lots for his clothes, and set up a sign above his head: “This is Jesus, the King of the Jews.” Two rebels hang beside him. Passersby, religious leaders, and even the criminals mock him. They challenge him to save himself if he truly claims to be the Son of God.
