Umunya Villagers Protest Alleged Demolition of Homes and Farmland in Anambra Land Dispute
Residents of Odumodu-Ani Village in Umunya, Oyi LGA of Anambra State, have protested the alleged destruction of their ancestral farmlands, economic trees and buildings during a disputed land development. The villagers alleged that a land speculator arrived with earth-moving equipment and men who graded parts of the land, uprooted crops and trees, demolished some structures and blocked a stream used by the community. They said the land is a key source of farming income and food, including for local garri production. Members of the Eziudo Family, who claim the land has been inherited through generations, said they did not sell it and are seeking an investigation into the ownership dispute. They appealed to the Anambra State Government and community leaders to halt further activity, protect residents and restore peace.
