Cross River ALGON Backs Oil and Gas Training, Rejects Landlocked Label
The Cross River chapter of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria has praised the state government's oil and gas skills programme for 2,000 youths across the 18 local government areas. ALGON chairman Yibala Igri Inyang said the certificate and diploma training is intended to prepare young people for opportunities in oil, gas, maritime trade and the Blue Economy. He argued that Cross River's coastline, estuaries and access to the sea support its claim to littoral status despite the loss of offshore oil wells after the 2012 Supreme Court judgment. He urged relevant federal agencies to complete ongoing verification of the state's status without prejudice.
