Davido, Political Dynasties and the Illusion of Celebrity Solidarity
“Emi omo baba olowo” tells us the team Davido plays for, and it is not the same team as the average Nigerian. While we dance to the music, we should understand the class reality behind it. In my view, many celebrities and influencers use poor Nigerians and our struggles only when it serves their personal interests. Davido spoke up when his family was involved, but the conflict was still between powerful political families, not a fight created for ordinary people. His visit to Wike reinforces my belief that these elites ultimately belong to the same class. One side may weaponise poverty and fear, while another presents a friendlier image, but both can use the masses to protect political and economic dynasties. There is no messiah in any elite political family or celebrity. Real change must come from people who truly understand and share the realities of ordinary Nigerians. Read, think and be angry if you must.
