Why No South-East Aspirant Qualified as Atiku’s Running Mate, Okonkwo Explains

Kenneth Okonkwo has dismissed claims he opposed Rotimi Amaechi’s nomination as Atiku Abubakar’s vice presidential candidate. He says his earlier comments were about geopolitical representation, not the individual. Okonkwo clarified that under the Electoral Act, any vice-presidential candidate must have been an ADC member at least 21 days before the primary. No South-East aspirant met that requirement, so they were ineligible. He praised the party’s process, noting Amaechi’s strong showing in the primary and Atiku’s return to halt proceedings and engage key stakeholders before confirming the ticket.

I'm not convinced zoning talk isn't cover for personal bias. Why defend representation so vigorously now?

Perhaps parties should publish clear criteria for selecting running mates to avoid confusion over zoning and legal compliance.
