Florida Officer Accused of Taking Dead Man’s Home and Using His Identity for Four Years
A Florida police officer has been arrested after allegedly taking control of a deceased man’s home and posing as the owner for about four years. Investigators said the officer responded to a welfare check in 2022 and later claimed the homeowner had no surviving relatives. He is accused of moving into the property without legal authority, using the dead man’s identity to obtain renovation permits and accessing official records through police systems. The alleged scheme reportedly came to light when the man’s rightful heirs sought control of the property. The officer later sued for reimbursement for more than $214,000 allegedly spent on renovations. He now faces fraud, impersonation, computer-crime and document-falsification charges.
