Court Orders Benue Governor Alia to Release State Financial Records Since June 2023
An FCT High Court has ordered Benue State Governor Hyacinth Alia to disclose financial records covering the state’s finances from June 2023. The order followed a Freedom of Information suit filed by former APGA governorship aspirant Joseph Waya. The requested records include federal allocations, internally generated revenue, loans, grants, contracts, foreign donations, personnel costs and pension payments. The court upheld Waya’s right to access the information after he said the state government did not fully respond to his September 2025 request. The ruling does not amount to a finding of financial misconduct against the governor or his administration. The case comes amid opposition demands for clarity on Benue’s FAAC inflows and spending on security, healthcare, education, agriculture and infrastructure.
