Seven Arrested in Ghana Over Sale of Cedi Money Bouquets
The Bank of Ghana and the Ghana Police Service have arrested seven people accused of using cedi notes to make and sell money bouquets. The central bank said using banknotes and coins as decorations for weddings, birthdays, graduations and similar events is illegal under Ghana’s currency laws. The restriction also covers money cakes, jewellery and other artistic displays made with currency. The Bank of Ghana warned that spraying, scattering, stepping on, tearing, crumpling, staining or defacing cedi notes may lead to arrest and prosecution. It says enforcement operations will continue to protect the quality and integrity of the national currency.
