Festac Land Dispute: Family Urges Police to Conclude Investigation
The Kuje Amuwo Chieftaincy Family has asked the Nigeria Police Force to conclude its investigation into a long-running land dispute around 6th and 7th Avenue in Festac Extension, Amuwo-Odofin, Lagos. The family said its petition to the Inspector-General of Police was approved for investigation and is being handled by the Police Monitoring Unit in Obalende. It expressed concern that the inquiry has not been concluded and asked police authorities to communicate the outcome to all parties. The family alleged harassment, intimidation and disruption of activities on the disputed land by the Lagos State Task Force on Land Matters. These allegations have not been established by a court. The dispute is also before the Lagos State High Court, where the family says parties should allow the judicial process to run its course. According to the family, the disagreement stems from land acquired by the Federal Government for FESTAC-related development. It maintains that part of the property was later released to it, while the matter has continued through several court proceedings and settlement efforts.
