Niger Delta Group Demands Probe of Oil Firms Over Host Community Treatment
A Niger Delta-focused coalition has asked the Federal Government, NNPC Limited, NEPL and petroleum regulators to investigate allegations of unfair treatment of Nigerians and host communities by multinational oil and gas companies. The group wants a review of employment, promotion, contracting and crude oil evacuation practices. It said qualified Nigerians and host-community indigenes should have transparent, merit-based opportunities for technical and management roles. It also raised concerns about delayed payments to indigenous contractors and possible non-compliance with metering, evacuation, fiscalisation and reporting rules. The coalition urged regulators to ensure oil operations deliver fair employment, business opportunities and sustainable benefits to host communities.
