Four Nigerian-Americans Win US Midterm Races; Fifth Leads in Georgia
Four Nigerian-Americans won state and local races in the November 3 US midterm elections, while Georgia lawmaker Segun Adeyina was leading in a race that had not yet been called. The winners include Will Jawando in Maryland, Junior Ezeonu in Texas, Oye Owolewa in Washington, DC, and Carol Kazeem in Pennsylvania. Jawando won the Montgomery County executive race, and Ezeonu secured a seat in the Texas House after running unopposed in the general election. Owolewa won an at-large seat on the DC Council, while Kazeem retained her Pennsylvania House seat. Adeyina, seeking re-election to the Georgia House, was ahead of Republican Charles Lollar in an early count, with only a small share of estimated votes counted. The midterms also included races for all 435 US House seats and 35 Senate seats.
