Akande: Obi and Amaechi Should Lead Southern Challenge to Tinubu in 2027

Former media aide to ex–Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, Laolu Akande, has urged the opposition, including the ADC, to push experienced southern politicians like Rotimi Amaechi and Peter Obi as presidential candidates. He spoke on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily. Akande argued that credible leaders from the South are needed to go head-to-head with President Bola Tinubu. He highlighted Amaechi’s long public service record as Speaker, Governor, and Minister, and his role in infrastructure delivery. He warned that without a strong alternative, Atiku Abubakar could keep dominating opposition politics ahead of 2027. He urged the opposition to rally behind candidates with proven governance credentials.
