The Economist: Tinubu Could Win Re-election Despite Hardship and Insecurity
The Economist says President Bola Tinubu could still win the 2027 election despite public discontent over insecurity and the effects of economic reforms. The publication argued that incumbency advantages, opposition fragmentation and identity politics may work in Tinubu’s favour. It noted that opposition votes could remain split if leading challengers fail to form a united ticket. The report also highlighted the influence of religion, low voter turnout in insecure areas and declining expectations of public services. It said many dissatisfied voters may not necessarily use the ballot box to vote against the incumbent.
