Ukpata Residents Allege Armed Occupation of Farmlands, Urge Enugu Government to Act
Residents of Ukpata in Uzo-Uwani Local Government Area of Enugu State have raised alarm over alleged armed occupation of ancestral farmlands, threats to residents and sexual violence against women. Community leader Chief Eziuche Linus said the situation has left many farmers fearful of accessing their land. The allegations, if verified, could worsen food insecurity, displacement and insecurity in the agrarian community. Human rights lawyer Ifeanyi Ejiofor has urged Governor Peter Mbah and security agencies to investigate the claims, protect residents and restore lawful access to affected farmlands. He stressed that criminal suspects should be identified through credible investigations without blaming any ethnic group collectively.
