Tony Elumelu to Retire as UBA Chairman After 12 Years; Emmanuel Nnorom to Succeed Him

Tony Elumelu will retire from the Board of United Bank for Africa on August 21, 2026. His 12-year tenure reshaped UBA into a leading pan-African lender. Emmanuel Nnorom, a current Non-Executive Director, takes over as Group Chairman the same day in line with Central Bank governance rules. Under Elumelu’s leadership, UBA expanded into 20 African countries and four global financial centres. The bank’s customer base surged past 50 million, while digital banking capabilities and corporate governance standards were strengthened. In a board meeting on July 6, UBA thanked Elumelu for his visionary guidance. Elumelu described his service as a career highlight. Nnorom, with over 40 years of banking and governance experience, pledged to sustain UBA’s growth and governance culture.

Current UBA investors should monitor Nnorom's first policy moves, especially capital allocation decisions and corporate governance updates.
