FG Considers Law to Stop Future Governments From Reversing Economic Reforms
The Federal Government is consulting on a proposed Nigeria Economic Policy Framework that could be backed by law to prevent future administrations from reversing key economic reforms. The framework would set guiding principles for taxation, tariffs, subsidies, investment and industrial development. It is expected to promote policy consistency and reduce uncertainty for businesses and investors. Officials said the proposal remains a consultation draft and has not yet been approved as government policy. Public consultation is expected to continue until November 27, 2026, before it is considered by the Federal Executive Council and the National Economic Council. The government also restated its position that petrol subsidy removal will not be reversed, while targeting lower inflation, improved infrastructure, stronger local production and cheaper borrowing costs.
