Former Kenyan Soldier Tells Dangote to Halt Planned Lamu Refinery
Former Kenya Defence Forces soldier Patrick Osoi has drawn attention after saying Aliko Dangote should not rush into a planned refinery project in Lamu, Kenya. In a viral video, Osoi said he would send Dangote back to Nigeria if he becomes Kenya’s president in the 2027 election. He argued that Kenyan investors should develop the refinery instead. Dangote and Kenyan President William Ruto reportedly broke ground on the proposed $16 billion Dangote East Africa Refinery in late September. The project is expected to process up to 700,000 barrels of crude daily when completed and could reduce East Africa’s dependence on imported fuel. The remarks have triggered debate online, with some supporting Osoi’s call for local ownership and others questioning the practicality of stopping an investment of that scale after construction has begun.
