Nigeria’s HubPharm Wins $30,000 Top Prize at ECOWAS Startup Awards
Lagos-based health-tech startup HubPharm Africa has won the $30,000 top prize at the second ECOWAS Startup Awards in Abuja. The pharmacist-led platform emerged ahead of finalists from Senegal, Côte d’Ivoire, The Gambia and Cabo Verde. HubPharm provides medicine sourcing, pharmacist support and digital follow-up for people managing chronic conditions. Its WhatsApp-based Afiya AI tool offers medication reminders, refill prompts and adherence support in more than 50 languages. The competition attracted 1,499 qualifying applications from 12 ECOWAS member states. Beyond the prize money, the winners gained access to investor deal rooms, while all 60 finalists will receive acceleration support, mentorship and regional market exposure. HubPharm says it has served more than 10,200 chronic-care patients across Nigeria and 11 other countries. The award could support its plans to expand coordinated care and medicine access across West Africa.
