Ethnic Blame Will Not Solve Nigeria’s Political Problems
Some Igbo critics are quick to describe all Yoruba people as saboteurs, but political disloyalty and self-interest exist across every ethnic group. In my view, Alex Otti’s support for President Tinubu and Charles Soludo’s criticism of Peter Obi show that this is not simply a Yoruba-versus-Igbo issue. I also question the reported ₦200 million fee for political billboards in Abia State. Similar fees do not appear to apply in several Yoruba-led states, including Oyo, Osun, Ondo and Ekiti. We should stop blaming entire ethnic groups for Nigeria’s political problems. The real challenge is holding politicians accountable and uniting against leaders who put personal interests ahead of the public.
