Suspected Bandits Kill Six Farmers in Birnin Gwari, Kaduna
Six farmers were killed by suspected bandits on Monday, June 22, in Kujijiro farmlands, Kuyello District, Birnin Gwari Local Government Area of Kaduna State. The Birnin Gwari Emirate Progressives Union described the assault as tragic and confirmed the victims were ambushed while working on their farms. In a statement, the union expressed deep sorrow and condemned the violence. It warned that continued attacks threaten the fragile peace in Birnin Gwari and could discourage farmers from returning to their fields, risking food shortages and higher prices across Kaduna State and northern Nigeria. The union appealed to federal and state authorities to step up security operations in eastern Birnin Gwari. It urged the Minister of Defence, National Security Adviser, the Nigerian Armed Forces, the police and other agencies to intensify patrols in Kuyello and neighbouring communities. Residents were also asked to remain calm and support security agencies with any useful information.
