REDAN Calls for Developer Regulation to Curb Land Fraud and Building Collapses

REDAN Calls for Developer Regulation to Curb Land Fraud and Building Collapses

The Real Estate Developers Association of Nigeria says the lack of regulation for property developers is enabling fraud, multiple sales of the same land and building collapses across the country. REDAN President Oba Akintoye Adeoye made the call at a National Housing Data Programme workshop in Abuja. He urged the Federal Government to establish a clear regulatory framework for developers. Adeoye proposed a system in which government licenses developers, while REDAN promotes ethical conduct, training and compliance. He also called for a national developers’ registry to ensure that only competent and accountable developers operate in Nigeria. He said state governments should continue to handle land administration, planning and development control, while professional bodies regulate their respective fields.
