Yunusa Tanko Demands ₦5bn Over Claims He Manipulated Kaduna NDC Ticket for Son
Dr Yunusa Tanko, a former National Coordinator of the Obidient Movement and political adviser to Peter Obi, has demanded ₦5 billion in damages from fellow supporter Nmaa Ukpabi over alleged defamatory social-media posts. The dispute concerns the NDC House of Assembly ticket for Kawo Constituency in Kaduna State. An electoral officer’s report reportedly showed that Rakiya Baba Mohammed won the party primary with 225 votes to Yunusa Mohammed Salisu’s 132. However, INEC later listed Salisu, who is Tanko’s son, as the party’s candidate. Tanko’s lawyers deny claims that he manipulated the process to secure the ticket for his son. They have demanded the removal of the posts, public retractions and apologies in national and international media within 24 hours, warning that legal action may follow. The controversy has intensified debate over transparency, internal democracy and accountability within the NDC and the wider Obidient movement ahead of the 2027 elections.
