Police Inspector Dies After Hit-and-Run on Third Mainland Bridge

Police Inspector Mercy Bassey has died after she was allegedly hit by a black Highlander SUV while on route-lining duty for President Bola Tinubu’s movement in Lagos. The officer, attached to the Ikotun Divisional Police Station, was reportedly struck at the Adekunle Intersection of the Third Mainland Bridge while heading towards Lagos Island. The driver allegedly fled the scene and escaped despite being pursued by patrol officers. Bassey was taken to the General Hospital in Ebute Metta, where she reportedly died while awaiting treatment. Lagos police say they are seeking CCTV footage to identify the vehicle and arrest the driver.
