Ogun 2027: Questions Persist Over INEC Documents and Yayi’s Eligibility

Questions are continuing over claims that the Independent National Electoral Commission has cleared Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, of concerns linked to his nomination documents and eligibility for the 2027 Ogun governorship election. The dispute centres on whether INEC’s acknowledgement of nomination papers amounts to verification of their contents or a resolution of allegations about past electoral declarations. Critics argue that acknowledgement is different from a public clearance or a court ruling on the claims. NNPP candidate Akinbola Hammed Rotham reportedly obtained documents through a Freedom of Information request and challenged Adeola to present the relevant records before a court. Legal practitioner Victor Olamide also questioned whether Adeola made consistent declarations about his state of origin in previous electoral forms. The allegations have not been established by a court. While some suits challenging Adeola’s emergence as the APC candidate were reportedly discontinued, the Ogun chapters of the YPP and BOOT Party dispute claims that their cases were withdrawn with proper authorisation.
