Bolshoi Theatre Performer Dies After Stage Scenery Falls During Opera

Yevgeny Kulesh, 38, died after being trapped beneath falling stage scenery during a performance of Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov’s opera, Sadko, at Moscow’s Bolshoi Theatre. The orchestra stopped and the curtain was closed shortly after people on stage called for medical help. Audience members were then asked to leave the auditorium. Emergency workers could not save Kulesh. Russian investigators opened an inquiry into the accident, while reports said the scenery was being changed when the incident occurred.
