Tinubu Urges Airtel, Other Telcos to Improve Network Coverage and Customer Service
President Bola Tinubu has welcomed Airtel Nigeria’s Open Network initiative, which is intended to help subscribers track network developments in their areas and report service disruptions directly. He said telecommunications investments must result in wider coverage, fewer dropped connections and faster responses to customer complaints. The President also urged operators to prioritise underserved communities with poor access to digital services. Airtel says it has expanded its network from about 15,000 sites two years ago to more than 17,000 sites nationwide, including 657 5G sites added during the 2025/26 financial year. Tinubu also highlighted the government’s programme offering eligible students up to 100MB of daily data for approved educational platforms.
