Melania Trump Secures Temporary Ceasefire for Elderly Evacuation in Oleshky
US First Lady Melania Trump says she helped secure a temporary ceasefire in the Russian-controlled Ukrainian city of Oleshky to allow elderly civilians to evacuate safely. The planned pause in fighting is expected to begin on October 29. Non-military teams from Russia and Ukraine will visit residents, coordinate transport and help evacuees travel to either destination of their choice. Oleshky, across the Dnipro River from Kherson, reportedly has about 1,700 to 2,000 residents left, most of them elderly. The city had about 24,000 people before the war and was severely affected by flooding after the Kakhovka Dam was destroyed.
