Police Arrest Father-in-Law Accused of Harassing Widow Days After Husband’s Death

Police Arrest Father-in-Law Accused of Harassing Widow Days After Husband’s Death

The Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency says it has contacted a 28-year-old widow who allegedly faced threats, assault and intimidation from her in-laws just eight days after her husband’s death. The woman reportedly lodged a complaint at the Owutu Police Division. Police have arrested her father-in-law, who is accused of locking her out of her late husband’s home, and investigations are ongoing. The agency says it is working with relevant authorities to protect the widow and her children and to ensure the case is handled in line with the law.

Absolutely. Immediate safety measures and clear reporting channels should come before families are left to handle threats alone.

An arrest is serious, but the allegations still need to be properly investigated and handled through due process.

The reported contact from the domestic violence agency matters; she should keep records of threats and follow up through the police division.
