Bakers, Manufacturers Warn as Diesel Nears ₦2,000 Per Litre

Bakers and manufacturers say diesel prices of ₦1,800 to ₦1,900 per litre are pushing production, transport and generator costs to unsustainable levels. They warn that further increases could force up the prices of bread and other everyday goods. The Crude Oil Refinery Owners Association of Nigeria says stronger support for local refineries could reduce reliance on diesel imports. It wants reliable crude supply for the Dangote refinery and modular refineries, which it says could collectively meet much of Nigeria’s daily diesel demand. The Manufacturers Association of Nigeria also cited high energy costs, electricity tariffs, interest rates and exchange-rate pressure as major burdens on the sector. Businesses warn that workers and households will feel the impact through higher food prices, transport fares and a worsening cost-of-living crisis.
