Tinubu Urges States to Cut Transport Fares With CNG Services by October 1

President Bola Tinubu has asked state governments to ensure that savings from compressed natural gas-powered transport lead to lower fares for commuters from October 1. He said states should work with transport unions and operators to expand vehicle conversions, deploy more buses and provide the infrastructure needed for CNG services. Tinubu cited lower fares already recorded on selected routes in Borno, Kaduna, Oyo, Adamawa, Enugu, Plateau, Abuja, Niger and Abia. He said more than 120,000 vehicles had been converted to CNG, with over 400 certified conversion centres and more than 90 refuelling stations now operating nationwide. The President said expanding gas-powered transport would help reduce Nigeria's exposure to rising petrol and diesel prices, while making daily travel more affordable.
