The United States and Iran exchanged military strikes overnight into Monday in their first direct confrontation in more than a month. US Central Command said it struck two Iranian rocket launchers on Larak Island after detecting IRGC forces allegedly preparing to deploy sea mines near the Strait of Hormuz. Iran reported military and civilian casualties and described the operation as an act of aggression. The IRGC responded with missile and drone attacks targeting US military facilities in Jordan. Jordan said its air-defence systems intercepted eight projectiles. Oil prices rose sharply after the clashes, raising fresh concerns about global energy supplies and possible wider economic effects.
