Anambra Couple Plead Not Guilty to Attempted Murder Charge Over Alleged Abuse of 11-Year-Old
A married couple has been arraigned before the Anambra State Sexual and Gender-Based Violence Court in Awka over the alleged abuse of an 11-year-old child who lived with them. The child was reportedly rescued after neighbours raised alarm over his condition. The case gained public attention after images and videos of his injuries circulated online. Prosecutors allege that the woman repeatedly assaulted and burned the child, while her husband failed to obtain medical care and kept the child out of school. The couple pleaded not guilty to all five counts and indicated through their lawyers that they intend to pursue a plea bargain. The prosecution did not oppose the request.
