Abuja Trader Alleges AMAC Demanded ₦50,000 AC-Use Permit Fee
An Abuja petty trader has alleged that officials of the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) demanded ₦50,000 for an air-conditioner-use permit at her shop. In a viral video, she said officials frequently request payments for different permits and levies, even after she had paid for a business permit. She said she reviewed AMAC regulations and could not find provisions for some of the charges allegedly being demanded. Her complaint has prompted other Abuja shop owners to share similar experiences, with many saying multiple levies are putting added pressure on small businesses and contributing to shop closures in the FCT.
