Family to Bury UNIJOS Graduate Allegedly Lynched Over Missing iPhone
The family of Ibrahim Mbaya, a 25-year-old University of Jos graduate allegedly beaten to death by a mob in Jos, says he will be buried on Thursday in Hawul Local Government Area of Borno State. His younger brother said the family is arranging to take his body home and hopes those responsible will face justice. Ibrahim, the family’s first son, was described as a young man whose ambitions were cut short. The incident reportedly happened on Sunday at an off-campus apartment near Ring Road, Jos. Ibrahim was accused of taking a missing iPhone and was allegedly attacked by a group of youths after returning to explain himself. Witnesses said he was beaten for hours before he collapsed and was later confirmed dead. Plateau State Police have arrested three suspects over alleged culpable homicide and say efforts are ongoing to identify and arrest others linked to the attack. The killing has prompted calls from alumni and civil society groups for a thorough investigation and prosecution of everyone involved.
