London Man Sentenced to 10 Years for Online Child Grooming
A London court has handed a 10-year sentence to David Chellapah, 31, after he pleaded guilty to a string of online child sexual exploitation offences. He was arrested by Met Police specialists at a planned meeting where he intended to abuse a child. Investigators found Chellapah had spent months targeting youngsters aged 12 to 15 on social media. He sent sexual messages, coerced victims into producing explicit images and attempted to arrange in-person meetings. Officers recovered a USB stick and multiple devices filled with indecent images. After the conviction, the Met highlighted a 116% rise in child exploitation reports year-on-year and announced a £10 million upgrade of its video-interview suites to protect victims’ welfare.
