Gen. Musa Blames Political Seasons for Nigeria’s Rising Insecurity
Nigerian Defence Minister General Christopher Musa says insecurity peaks during political seasons due to insider collusion and outside interference. He made these remarks in an interview on Arise Television, describing the situation as a war against a well-supported and determined enemy. Musa pointed out that informants within local communities often leak tactical intelligence, enabling attackers to strike with overwhelming force. He noted that most security force casualties result from improvised explosive devices, citing the recent death of a commanding officer in Monguno as a tragic example. The minister warned that these attacks are often timed to undermine public confidence in the government. He highlighted three bomb blasts in a single day as proof of violence designed for maximum political impact. Despite the challenges, Musa affirmed the military’s commitment to neutralizing those exploiting the political calendar.
