Osun Election: APC Setback, Not Yet a Defeat Ahead of 2027
Ademola Adeleke’s victory in Osun is significant, but it should not be treated as proof that the APC has collapsed or that the 2027 presidential election has already been decided. State elections are shaped by local candidates, alliances, party structures, voter grievances and campaign organisation. The APC should see the result as a warning and study why it lost. It must examine its grassroots structures, candidate selection, internal divisions and voters’ concerns. At the same time, opposition parties should avoid assuming that one state victory automatically signals a national realignment. President Tinubu and every major political figure should be judged by facts, policies and performance rather than blind loyalty or political hatred. Osun has delivered an important lesson, but the significance of the result will depend on how both the APC and opposition parties respond before 2027.
