Daniel Bwala’s Al Jazeera Showdown: From Respected Lawyer to Political Liability

Daniel Bwala’s Al Jazeera Showdown: From Respected Lawyer to Political Liability

I once admired Daniel Bwala’s composure and insight when he appeared on Channels TV in 2017. As a lawyer and commentator, he struck me as balanced and principled. Everything changed when he entered politics. He campaigned fiercely for Atiku Abubakar, then stunned many by switching to Bola Tinubu’s team. It felt more like a pursuit of personal gain than conviction. His appearance on Mehdi Hasan’s Head to Head show on Al Jazeera proved disastrous. Hasan’s probing style exposed Bwala’s shaky arguments. It was a public humiliation that harmed both his and Tinubu’s reputations. In Nigeria, success often eclipses integrity. But in a serious democracy, citizens would demand clear answers. Bwala’s fall highlights how far we still have to go.
