Diddy Wins Key Court Ruling as $100m Defamation Suit Moves Forward
Sean “Diddy” Combs has won an early court battle in his $100 million defamation lawsuit against lawyer Ariel Mitchell and her client, Courtney Burgess. A judge rejected their request to dismiss the case, allowing the lawsuit to proceed. The court ruled that allegations accusing Combs of sexual assault and secretly recording sexual partners were specific claims of fact, not protected opinions or rhetorical exaggeration. Combs denies the allegations and describes them as false and damaging. Burgess has claimed to possess videos allegedly involving Combs, celebrities and minors. The ruling does not decide whether those claims are true or whether defamation occurred; it only means Combs can continue pursuing the case. The dispute follows Combs’ 2025 federal criminal trial, where he was convicted on two prostitution-related transportation counts and acquitted of racketeering conspiracy and sex-trafficking charges. He remains in custody, with a projected release date of February 5, 2028.
